No, the old “full” season was 12 weeks. I forget what last year’s was, but it was way less than 12 weeks.
The No vote beat the Yes vote this time, by 8%, and there were about 7600 votes. Last year’s poll had the Yes vote ahead by 40%.

I do hate these polls, These questions fall into the category of ambiguity like “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” . Yes or No you can’t win.
How do I know what the question “Do you believe the duck season should return to a full 12 weeks?”means?
I’m from NSW so I don’t know what length the duck shooting season is in Vic but I assume, from the question, it is longer than 12 weeks, say 24 weeks. In which case if I’m anti duck shooting a “return to 12 weeks” is better than 24 weeks. So my answer is “Yes”.
I voted “No” though!

Let’s not start this discussion again. Do you recall the similar poll a year ago, when we also discussed possible rigging of it? In that poll, there were 10s of thousands of votes cast both in favour and against. Either both sides got themselves incredibly well organised, or someone on each side was rigging it.
Several of us received vaguely threatening emails from a hunter who had seen the discussion in the archives.
At least this one is close, and there are reasonable nubers of votes. Just vote and forget it.

The same applies to all online polls, petitions etc. Most politicians (or their advisers) know this and ignore them. It is just about impossible to make a foolproof online poll without issuing some form of registration card – and in any case since the sample is non-random the results – even with no cheating – are meaningless. Only those with strong views vote – most people can’t be bothered.

It is amazingly easy in this poll to vote multiple times. You just have to vote, open your browser’s preferences, then remove the “The Age” cookie, go back to the voting page, vote, then remove the cookie, ad infinitum. You could even write a script to do it all for you. The results of the poll are therefore worthless, as it is so easily tampered with.
