Hi all, I’m in Geraldton over Xmas and ws just wondering if there are any birds of note about at the moment and possible places to visit near town? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas to all especially Russell and the moderators. Hi John, Unfortunately I don’t know Geraldton that well in terms of birding, but there are a few sites listed in the BirdLife WA guide for the area – see http://www.birdlife.org.au/images/uploads/branches/documents/WA-11a_geraldton.pdf The port and harbour areas are also worth a check – I don’t know how much is around normally, but they have turned up a couple of rare gulls Not much there, but hope it helps Cheers, John

G’day John, Ellendale Pool (about 45kms out I think) is well worth a look. We were there in October and it’s a lovely little spot with the highlight being a pair of Peregrine Falcons who are resident in the cliffs above the pool. It’s a fairly popular area so this time of year it could be a bit busy though. South of Geraldton is the Greenough River and the river mouth area can be pretty good from what I understand. I think it’s less than an hours drive from Gero.
