Hi everyone, I’ve just put a video on vimeo of my recent outing to see the Barking Owl at Narrabeen. Hey Martin! Thanks mate. Do you reckon you can tell if its male or female? Apparently there were two there but one was shot by a moron with a pellet gun (along with some cormorants)!!! 🙁 I couldn’t believe how tolerant is was with all the people going by constantly. Although it was Easter Monday so more people around than normal, but still a well used track around the lake. So many people knew about it already and were surprised that it wasn’t where it normally was! I reckon there I’m going to keep up with a bit more video focus with my photography. So many people shooting stills but not many people shooting video in Australia. LONG term aim for a ‘video field guide’ 🙂 Hope you are well? A wonderful bit of video. Now I understand why its old name is Winking Owl (translation of /connivens/). It definitely half-closes, or completely closes, its eyes when calling. Congratulations. David, We have a pair here on Petersen Creek in Yungaburra, fairly tolerant of people movement but this bird is amazingly resistant to traffic.
