Dear all, A friend is putting together an information booklet on ticks, and wants to know which birds carry and/or eat ticks? Does anyone have any information? I imagine Cattle Egrets eat cattle ticks, but I’ve never had any luck trying to feed ‘shellbacks’ to chooks or Brush-turkeys. Hi Brian, While banding bush birds I occasionally catch small passerines with ticks, usually embedded between the base of the bill and the eye. I haven’t recorded this in any systematic way but I know that it has happened with more than a few species. One that immediately comes to mind is the Yellow-throated Scrubwren. I don’t know what species of tick/s is/are involved and I have usually removed them before releasing the bird. Regards Greg Dr Greg. P.
