Hi,
I’ve just finalised the full Ashmore Reef trip report here: http://aussiebirding.wildiaries.com/trips/10329.
Just to reiterate and confirm. The group found TWO new birds for Australia: Arabian Shearwater and Grey-streaked Flycatcher. There is little chance of getting to Ashmore but the Arabian Shearwaters can be seen and I have arranged a boat. I will need to know asap from anyone who wants to go. I already have some interest. This is a once-only opportunity this year.
Note, this bird may be still considered as ‘Audubon’s’ by BARC. This would still be a new Australian bird for most people. However, it is HIGHLY LIKELY that it will be split off in Australia very soon and will become a new bird. We will be submitting this to BARC as Arabian Shearwater. It’s not really that they haven’t split it but that Christidis and Boles is out of date with regard to these birds.
So please, let me know quickly if you want a space. If we don’t get the numbers, it’ll be another year before this chance occurs again.
Regards,
Simon.
