Scarlet-chested Parrots are back at Gluepot

Hi all, Scarlet-chested Parrots have been reported at Gluepot again in recent days. I went up there to have a look this afternoon but (possibly because of hot, windy and dusty conditions) didn’t see any. It will be interesting to see if they breed again, as it has been very dry. While most of the lower parts of SA received good rains this winter, Gluepot missed out. This on top of a very dry 2012 and a record warm start to spring. I wonder what’s going on with our weather – oh wait, it’s not climate change, just ask Tony A. :-) Striated Grasswren numbers and active Malleefowl mounds are way down as a result (although I did find one of the latter today). This morning I also found nesting Black-eared Miners, a singing Red-lored Whistler, and all the other ‘usual’ birds – Chestnut Quail-thrush, Southern Scrubrobin, White-browed Treecreeper, Shy Heathwren etc. We’ve been seeing Major Mitchells as well recently and there’s a report of Orange Chats and Black Honeyeaters at the airstrip – I wasn’t going to brave the dust to check it. cheers Peter —- Peter Waanders SOUTHERN BIRDING SERVICES www.sabirding.com THE AUSTRALIAN BIRDING STORE www.birdingstore.com.au FREECALL: 1800-BIRDING (free from landlines within Australia) mob.: +61 (0)409 763172 sat.: +61 (0)424 212889 Postal: PO Box 2008, Berri SA 5343 Australia Email: peter@sabirding.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Southern-Birding-Services/134270499971996 =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: birding-aus-request@vicnet.net.au http://birding-aus.org ===============================
