Do kookaburra dive for fish?

I was walking along our local creek this afternoon when I saw a kookaburra dive down from a tree towards the water. Unfortunately part of the bank blocked the landing, but I saw water from a splash. The bird flew back to the perch and turned, looking damp, but I couldn’t see that it had caught anything.

Has anyone seen a kookaburra dive into the water and catch fish? ===============================

    Hi Sonja,

I’ve seen a kookaburra catch a small eel from a creek behind my house. Was a first for me!

I have had Kookaburra dive into my pond and catch goldfish until foiled by a wire mesh. From Jenny

Sonja, I have seen a Laughing Kookaburra dive down to catch a frog that had made the mistake of entering a suburban salt water swimming pool …

    Regards, Laurie.
