Hi there,
I was down at the Kalang estuary at Urunga ( 23km south of Coffs Harbour) last Saturday 3 March. There was a flock of around 160 Plumed Whistling-Ducks on Urunga Island. This is an unusual species in our area, but I have also heard of a flock of 50 birds at Raleigh (a couple of km from Urunga) in early February. Does anyone have any other recent records of the species from the Mid-North Coast? Richard
Hi All, Not quite mid-north coast, but the Museum on Lord Howe Island has a report of two Plumed Whistling-Ducks (with photograph) present in the Jan-Feb period this year and claim these were the first of this species ever recorded on the Island. I can confirm that one was still present on 3rd March 2012 in the swamp area across the road from the southern end of the airstrip. Regards Ross
