Just a short note to those who are, & those who might be, sending me swift observations:
to say thanks and request you keep doing it, even though I will be in the field at Chillagoe for 6-8 weeks looking at the effect La-Nina flooding has had on the swiftlets nesting colonies.
I will not be able to answer your e-mails, but my wife will download them for me so the mail box does not jam!
Many thanks & Happy swift watching
Mike

All to Mike’s note below, as well as posting to the list, last year I constructed a very basic excel sheet that I use to record my swift observations, which I then sent to Mike at the end of the season. If anybody would like a copy, please contact me off list and I’ll send it back – or you could construct your own, as the column headings I use are fairly simple, as follows:
Date Time Location Numbers Species (ie WTNT or Fork Tailed or both) Weather conditions Other Comments (eg behaviour seen, duration of sighting)
I partly did this because I found it helped me to remember to record the sightings (especially when I see parties 2 or 3 times in a day when I’m at home), so even when I did not get around to posting them to birding-aus, Mike got more observations from me than he may have otherwise.
