Darwin Wader ID

G’day all,

Just been sifting through my photos from a recent trip to Darwin. Lee Point was chocka-block with waders and, surprisingly, I was pretty confident identifying most of the birds.

A couple of them stumped me so I’m asking for your help. I won’t even venture a guess as I have probably thought too hard about it now.

The birds in question are in the top two photos at the following link: http://comebirdwatching.blogspot.com/p/id-help.html

Thanks in advance.

Hm ! Chris, I was thinking Sanderling too, see Hayman, Marchant , and Prater, (1986)Shorebirds, p185, bird 189e, and better still O’Brien, Crossley, and Karlson (2006) The Shorebird Guide, p139 for birds very like your images.

In my opinion, they are Sanderlings, I think juveniles. Cheers, Steve
