It seems clear that in part the refusal to allow access was due to certain people already doing the wrong thing and visiting the area without permits. Surely this must (once again) reinforce the message to the twitching community that NO tick is worth more than the bird itself, and that the actions of a few can and does ruin it for everyone.
I have missed gaining important information on a sighting of Orange-bellied Parrots as I saw two of them fly into a paddock on private land, saw where they landed, spent the next hour trying to contact the landowner to gain access permission and couldn’d find the birds again despite searching over the following week. I like to see new species too, don’t get me wrong but will always put landowners rights and the birds first, Personally I’d get pretty annoyed if I opened the curtains one morning to find someone wandering around in my yard in pursuit of a bird.
