Located on the western side of the Tasman Highway about 10 km south of Cranbrook (east coast of Tasmania) and immediately north of the sign Wet Marse Creek (The M and the E have been blanked and the sign reads Wet Arse Creek), yesterday there were more than 100 Black-fronted Dotterel scattered across an estimated 10 Ha. of recently cultivated paddock with numerous shallow areas of inundation. (Coming from the south, the paddock is about 10km north of Swansea)
Also 30+ White-fronted Chat males mixed with them. Some of the birds were noticed feeding amongst short vegetation several hundred meters away and interestingly, at that distance the two species were not always easy to separate while counting quickly.
There were also several Double-banded Dotterel and 2 Red-capped Dotterel. Also several male Flame Robins and many Skylarks.
It’s quite a sight at the moment and is the largest congregation of Black-fronted Dotterel I have seen. It may not last as the shallow flooded areas have almost dried.

Ian et al, nice sighting. Not a bird we see often, and certainly not in flocks like this. Flame Robins were a good sighting, too, as they seem to be becoming rarer these days,
