Hello,
Many members will remember our life member, Margaret Cameron. Margaret was a member since 1973 and was involved with many members in the Brisbane and Ipswich areas with surveys, bird walks and also as the Birds Queensland Speaker Coordinator for 6 years.
Sadly, Margaret passed away last Friday afternoon at Fairview care facility, Pinjarra Hills.
Her family has arranged a memorial service for Margaret which will be held at St Paul’s Anglican Church, 124 Brisbane Road, Ipswich at 11 a.m. on Monday, 9th October 2023.
All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in her memory to either: Birds Queensland (https://birdsqueensland.org.au/about-bq/make-a-donation/) or BirdLife Australia (https://birdlife.org.au/donate)
Regards,
Janette Thurley

Hi everyone
I’ve just learned that Margaret Cameron, former president of the RAOU (now Birds Australia) passed away last Friday. Margaret was a renowned bird observer, conservationist and amateur ornithologist. She was for a number of years the University Librarian at Deakin University. Margaret was also a founding member of Birding-Aus, and she did much to help get our online community established. She posted the first ever rare bird report – a Scarlet Honeyeater in the library carpark at Deakin’s Geelong campus.
I’ve attached a message from Birds Queensland that provides details of Margaret’s memorial service. You can also read a more detailed account of Margaret’s contribution to wildlife conservation and bird study here:

Vale Margaret – a great birder, mentor and friend
