Terns on the Brisbane River

We are staying in Brisbane for the month of July (from Washington, DC). Among the ID problems I am having is deciding on which terns are most common on the river. Many of them appear to have dark red bills and look big enough to be Caspians or Crested. But some are smaller – are these Commons? The gulls are Silver Gulls, right. I haven’t seen anything else from the Citycat.

Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry ===============================

Jill, Didn’t have scope with me but I’m pretty sure I saw Common Terns on sandbar in Pumicestone Passage (off Pelican Waters) last Fri., 6/7.

Andrew, immature Common Terns around right now, but not so likely up the river, as you said. Forinstance, they are resting on the beach at Woorim (Bribie Island) in between fishing trips.

    Cheers,
