Hello everyone. I had a strange experience yesterday. Sitting in my office at home, on the edge of dense eucalypt forest (rainforest understorey) I was astonished to see an adult Spotted Harrier fly past the window into the trees. It dodged gracefully amongst the trunks before making a circuit back to the house and perching on a nearby branch for 5 minutes (I have some nice photos). Has anyone had any experience of a harrier in the forest? I have seen Wedge-tailed Eagles performing the same feat. Richard, We had a similar experience last year (29 July) inland from Calen Qld, north of Mackay. It flew very close to us while we were having coffee. It flew from forest on one side of the road into the forest on the other side, weaving through the trees before perching in a eucalyptus about 25 m into the trees. It was a big surprise for us. Hi Richard, saw a Swamp Harrier flying down a dense-forest track in Col-I-Suva National Park on Viti Levu a few years back.
