Hi all Late this afternoon I popped down to Blue Rocks (the local name for the 13th Beach end of Black Rocks, between Barwon Heads and Breamlea). It was about an hour after high tide, and a group of about 60 Red-necked Stints was feeding very actively along the shore. The group contained 2 or 3 Curlew Sandpiper, and a single Sanderling. The colouring suggested a moulting juvenile, with some of the dark checquering on the back, as well as some dark smudging around the bend of the wing, but it’s rather late for moult – usually done by April around here? Any thoughts? I don’t think my photos will be any good – to far away and too little light.
