Hi all, We’ll be in the Atherton Tablelands area for 3 nights in July and wondered if anyone has any accommodation recommendations? Family of 5 (2 Adults, 3 kids): we’re not too fussy, but a basic level of cleanliness etc. is preferred. Ideally, we want to be in a rainforest location and close to some of the lakes around Yungaburra area. Thanks in advance Paul _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
Thanks for all the suggestions for accommodation in the tablelands area: all very useful! You get birds (possibly your target species) coming into feed on the verandahs and you get to see some of the resident marsupials at night as well. see http://www.yungaburra.com/chambers-wildlife-rainforest-lodges/ Regards, Laurie. Hi Paul We’ve just come back from 3 lovely nights at Kingfisher Park. Their 2 bedroom units would suit your family perfectly I would say. There’s loads of great birding around the lodge at all times of day, and lots to do within a short drive. There’s a great pub nearby for meals if you don’t want to cook every night. Keith and Lindsay will give you tips on the local area, both from a birding point of view and for shopping, food, other activities. We drove to the cloud forest at top of Mt Lewis, and had amazing views of Wompoo fruit-dove amongst others. We also drove up on the peninsula development road towards Mt Carbine, did some walks recommended by Keith & Lindsay, and loved the drier forest around there. We saw Bustards just nearby too, again with Intel from Keith & Lindsay. I can’t speak about the other places mentioned on list, but I did choose Julatten this time because of it’s wildness, diversity and because it is a bit different. If you team it up with Yungaburra, you’ll have a brilliant trip. We’ve stayed at Kingfisher Park in Julatten a number of times. For our next visit, we are moving around between there, Lake Eacham Caravan Park (near Yungaburra), and Cassowary House, near Kuranda. All seem as though they’ll be good, and would fit your requirements. Cheers, John Tongue Devonport, Tas.
