Birding-Aus Digest, Vol 66, Issue 5

Re Field Guide for Vanuatu Hi Wendy, I used the Birds of Melanesia for trips to both New Caledonia 2 years ago and Vanuatu this year. Some interesting research on the impact of conspicuous plumage on predation rates

see www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/04/190402164509.htm

Summary: Biologists have examined the factors that drive the predation levels of Australia’s fairy wrens. After measuring attack rates on both conspicuously and dull colored 3D fairy wren models in various habitats, they found that bright or ‘conspicuous’ plumage is not associated with an increase in predation.

Town Common

Has anyone been to Town Common recently? I will be passing through Townsville this week and wonder if it is worth a quick visit, and if so anything in particular to look for.
