The use of DNA to identify a rare vagrant in Australia

I guess the case off the Brown Streaked Flycatcher at Sandfire Roadhouse would qualify as one of the biggest megas in Australian birding history (given its rareness in its native range).

It is a fascinating story if you haven’t come across it: www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-13/new-bird-species-found-in-australia-via-poo-detection/13137184

It is mainly aimed at beginners, so I expect it will be a little elementary for most of the people on this list, but if you have a few . . . → Read More: constructive criticism on video

Tiwi Islands

I seek advice. Even though I lived in Darwin for some years I never visited the Tiwi Islands. Natalie and I are going to Darwin in April for an important family event and would like to go birding on the Tiwi Islands. I will be grateful for any advice and suggestions – accommodation, birding guides, . . . → Read More: Tiwi Islands

High Ground

I appreciated the opportunity to watch the movie High Ground in a cinema this morning. Set in Arnhem Land in the early 20th century, it does a very good job in telling an unhappy story.

The cinematography is stunning, and the bird photography and sound tracks are awesome. Not many movies feature brolgas in . . . → Read More: High Ground
