By Birding-Aus, on July 24th, 2016 Hi All
What other countries or birding areas have call recognition apps?
These apps would be very helpful for skulkers in rainforest and jungle.
The prospect of “heard only” lists now exists, particularly for the many apparently partly blind birders who occur in most groups. Now including ageing bin-bearers like myself,

By Birding-Aus, on July 23rd, 2016 Hello all
Following up on Chris Watson’s report (and advertisement) regarding Letter-winged Kites, I wish to ask the tour organisers and participants to exercise great caution in the nest areas. Disturbance by humans was responsible for over 40% of complete nest failures in the a comprehensive study on breeding raptors (by Craighead and Craighead (1956)), . . . → Read More: 300 metres

By Birding-Aus, on July 22nd, 2016 G’day all,
Ever the man of all things Central Australian, Mark Carter has become aware of Letter-winged Kites commencing a breeding colony within an easy drive of Alice Springs.
Mark has very quickly set up a series of expeditions to view these ethereally beautiful birds through August and September. This is such a rare opportunity . . . → Read More: **advertisement** Letter-winged Kite Expeditions ex-Alice Springs
By Birding-Aus, on July 22nd, 2016 Ryu,
It clearly is of Mallard origin. However whether there is any Black Duck in its ancestry, is hard to know. I suggest it is highly likely or most unlikely not to be. Your question seems to be whether it is a first generation hybrid, but that is not a relevant question. It depends how . . . → Read More: ID: Mallard or Mallard X Black Duck?
By Birding-Aus, on July 22nd, 2016 I would say Mallard X Black Duck. Streakiness of breast feathers is Mallard character, but head stripes in Mallard are much less distinct. Check the feet for colour. Mallard cross gives bright orange colour as distinct from Blackie’s greeny-yellow.

By Birding-Aus, on July 21st, 2016 Hello, there is no reason that Australia could not have a Birdsong app. There are already two for the British Birds, so may be someone could instigate an app for Australia? As some one with a poor memory and little knowledge of Birds here, I would certainly get it itunes.apple.com/gb/app/bird-song-id-automatic-recognition/id601362210?mt=8 warblr.net www.chirpomatic.com/ I hope that . . . → Read More: Birdsong app
