Carnaby’s Cockatoos are taking to artificial nest hollows

It sounds a bit like Wally Kerkhof’s story. We visited him in Moora this year where, as I’m sure many know, he has had great success with artificial nest hollows.

new $5 note

I just got one of the new $5 notes and birders can reassure themselves about the colours on the Eastern Spinebill depicted on it. In fact there are several spinebills on different parts of the note but all are either outlines or solid pieces of tinfoil, so they are not printed in any colours, they . . . → Read More: new $5 note

While driving down the Bruce Hw in Qld. on Sunday well away from the ocean we came across a Brahminy Kite trying

to lift a large dead Bandicoot from the centre of the road.

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone could provide any details on the Yellow Chat (Alligator River Sub-species) – access and sites? Can’t seem to find too much information online and in the literature.

All the best,

Public nest announcements

G’day all,

This post might be interpreted as vaguely rebarbative but I’m genuinely interested in having this discussion.

After posting about some forthcoming trips to see Letter-winged Kites, I, and by extension Mark Carter who organised the trips I would be running, received what amounted to an uninformed public dressing down from a researcher who . . . → Read More: Public nest announcements

RFI Darwin

Hi all. Will be in Darwin for a few days working soon and have a weekend to fill. Apart from all the normal areas which I know well, is there any special things or rarities around at the moment that anyone knows of? Cheers Bob

Mitchell Plateau charter for Black Grasswren 6 June 2017

As per previous years, including the spectacularly successful 2016 excursion, Australian Ornithological Services will run a one-day charter to the Mitchell Plateau at the end of our 2017 Top End tour. It involves fixed-wing to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip and then helicopters to the campground. The . . . → Read More: Advertisement: Mitchell Plateau charter for Black Grasswren tour: 6 June 2017
