RFI Madagascar

Hoping to go birding there next year with a few friends. Seem to be lots of tours run by the big companies (such as Rockjumper) and a number of local tour companies as well. Has anyone been and can provide feedback on options? Thanks Dave

WTNT & other migrants have reached Sthn. Vic.

Adam Fry spent much of the 29th Oct in Bunyip S.P. and saw 50 WTNT. I spent most of today there (the Helipad) and saw groups of 35 and 7. Also heard my first Sacred Kingfisher, as well as repeats of Brush Cuckoo, and Fan-tailed Cuckoo.

They were riding out the strong winds quite close to the rocks on a lee shore. The birds . . . → Read More: Black swans

Birding Darwin in the wet

I’ll be house-sitting for my daughter in January.

I have McCrie’s book and used it to good effect during my winter trip through NT.

Can anyone help me with suggestions about birding around Darwin in January? I would especially like to know if Pale-vented Bush-hen is a realistic possibility and how to go about it. . . . → Read More: Birding Darwin in the wet

We had limited time to recce before the event, and . . . → Read More: WA Twitchathon – Brexit Refugees

Dattuck track, Wyperfeld

Hi all, just back from a couple of days getting blown around Wyperfeld. No really amazing birds to report, but I did take the opportunity to walk the length of Dattuck track from North-South track to Cambacanya track, in search of Mallee Emu-wrens. To be honest, the habitat looked better in the western end of . . . → Read More: Dattuck track, Wyperfeld
