This is a truly beautiful place and as many will know has a special significance for so many birders like me who have enjoyed one of their world famous bird and whale pelagic trips . . . → Read More: kaikoura earthquake
By Birding-Aus, on November 14th, 2016 Does anyone know the current situation re the Freckled Ducks at Lake Lorne (Drysdale, near Geelong, Victoria)?
With the mass departure of ducks from coastal sites it seems quite likely that the “resident” Freckled Ducks at Lake Lorne have done likewise – but maybe not.
Any information would be appreciated.
With thanks. Richard Nowotny (Port . . . → Read More: Lake Lorne
By Birding-Aus, on November 14th, 2016 Would anyone be able to advise on the relative comfort level and stability of the boats that are used for the Portland and Port Fairy pelagics? I have been asked by a friend of mine who is susceptible to seasickness but who is determined to see more seabirds. Thank you.
Regards,
Tania

By Birding-Aus, on November 11th, 2016 I had a very frustrating time yesterday try to take a photograph of an Avocet at 300m distance with a howling gale. At the same time I could get brilliant views of the bird through my scope. I am wondering about buying the Swarovski iPhone adapter to try digiscoping and wonder if anyone has experience . . . → Read More: Digiscoping

By Birding-Aus, on November 10th, 2016 Thanks Glenn Ehmke Couldn’t agree more, but very surprised you didn’t mention grasswrens in your personal opinion. Every week it seems someone is pushing for a new sub species to be listed…..a long way from the x12 listed in the Birdlife Australia Magazine a few years ago. I have a conspiracy theory that the grasswren . . . → Read More: (no subject)
By Birding-Aus, on November 9th, 2016 A personal rant I would have thought. There might be something in these ideas but how is taxonomic research “ivory towers” or doing harm other than seeking to clarify and describe the fauna? This below is complete with many spelling and word lapses: e.g. “very diligent in suppressing any decent about it.” Really?
