Birds and Kanooka/Water Gum trees

Can anyone please let me know how attractive, or not, Kanooka/Water Gum/Tristaniopsis laurina is to birds?

It’s become a very fashionable street/landscaping tree here in south-eastern Melbourne and I fear it may just add to the suite of exotic trees that provide lots of nectar for the bully birds.

Melbourne CBD Koel

Hi all, there was a Common Koel calling very loudly at 7:15 this morning in the Treasury gardens, at the eastern edge of the Melbourne CBD, just south of the JFK Memorial.

I am out there fairly regularly and I was up in Macquarie Marshes about a month ago and LC and Louth in June/July. A few comments:

* Lake Cargelligo is a good base for Round Hill/Nombinnie/Yathong NR, Rankin Springs (Lachlan Fold Belt birds like Glossy Blacks) and a good stretch of the Lachlan River. . . . → Read More: RFI Western NSW

Dear birding-aussers

My London son is visiting, a keen birder, and wants to get a look at some of the birds the other side of the Divide, west of Dubbo, ie: out around Lake Cargelligo, Bourke, Walgett and Nombinnie Nat.Park, etc.

Has anyone recent experience of travelling in these areas – state of roads, heat, . . . → Read More: RFI travel in mid NSW
