By Birding-Aus, on September 9th, 2017 Not directly bird related – yet – but an interesting article with a couple of named Australians somewhat on the nose. With the realignment of so many birds into new genera one wonders if the same is happening in our neck of the clades…

By Birding-Aus, on September 9th, 2017 Does anyone have experience with the various Zeiss bins? My wife has Tetra, and I can’t imagine anything better. However, the online reviews rave about the Victory SF. At 3+ times the cost of the Tetra they would have to be stunning and a real leap in satisfaction.
Are they? I could stretch to . . . → Read More: Binoculars

By Birding-Aus, on September 8th, 2017 Thx Stephen. The 3 local species are Superb, Variegated, & Red-backed. All 3 are seen at the GOMA end. I think the group/s you’ll see all along Southbank are Superbs.

By Birding-Aus, on September 8th, 2017 Greetings all
There is a resident population of Scrubwrens living in the vegetation lining the sandstone cliff into which Woolwich Dock is emplaced. (www.harbourtrust.gov.au/visit/woolwich-dock-parklands)

By Birding-Aus, on September 7th, 2017 Along Southbank in inner Brisbane the 3 local Fairy-Wren spp. live in shrubs & grasses among the concrete & crowds. Some years ago during a small study of sightings histories for these birds, I found it notable that correlating records/maps showed no cuckoos in this location.

By Birding-Aus, on September 6th, 2017 Hi all,
Was in Perisher for some skiing on the weekend. On the way there, above the snowline (within the last 10k before reaching Perisher) I saw several robins on the roadside in the snow (singly, not a group) which I assumed to be Flame Robins. I was with the family, so did not have . . . → Read More: Flame robins/Scarlet robins
By Birding-Aus, on September 5th, 2017 Hi everyone
I live in Dulwich Hill along the light rail / Greenway corridor. There are a resident pair of White-browed scrubwren living in the adjacent bushcare site and nearby weedy thickets. The pair frequently visit my small garden to use the birdbath and to feed amongst my thick plantings. I know there are probably . . . → Read More: Scrubwrens in inner west Sydney
