Birding apps for the UK and Europe

Re birding apps for the UK and Europe.

I visited the UK in June 2017 for a bit of birdwatching. I used Birds of Britain and Ireland. It was very useful, especially the calls. I also used birdquicklist for keeping a list of what I saw.

Re swarovski 10×42

Not many options to see them now Bintel have shut their shop.Clayton Firearms apparently stock them, but you might want to check they actuakly have in store rather than just ordering in on request; www.claytonfirearms.com.au/products/binoculars/swarovski-2/swarovski-el-swarovision-10-x-42-claytonhttps://www.claytonfirearms.com.au/products/binoculars/swarovski-2/swarovski-el-swarovision-10-x-4… Cheers Mike

Spotted Whistling Ducks reported at Cardwell

Rohan Clarke has relayed a report from Ruth Reef of a “big flock” of SWD at the Edmund Kennedy Wetlands. At this rate of range extension, we may have SPD in SEQ in a decade or two

Back in the late 80s my wife and I worked as volunteers at Healesville Sanctuary – a native animal zoo outside of Melbourne. Telstra (or was it Telecom then?) used to test outback equipment by leaving it in the cocky exhibit for some time to see if it was “beak-proof”. Red Goshawk at Farina – not- correction

Sorry, funny editing error. I accidently left out the word “of” below. Should be: immediately rule out any kind of raptor………. I was not suggesting anything about the temperament of raptors.

Red Goshawk at Farina – not

Hello Geoff,

From the photo, it is without any doubt, a Little Eagle. That was my guess after your first message. Apart from several aspects of the colour pattern not at all matching a Red Goshawk, the fully feathered legs, down to the toes, immediately rule out any kind raptor, other than an eagle.
