Hi Mike, We saw about 20 WTNTs (with the naked eye) some high up and a few lower down this morning (8am) over suburban Parramatta NSW in clear blue skies Kind regards, Ann Sanchez

re Cuckoos

The Koels and the CBC’s have been around this inner-west Sydney locale in the usual numbers. I’ve recently seen fledged Australian Raven and Pied Currawongs begging. I’ve never seen a CBC chick being fed. The Koelsters I’ve seen in this locale have been raised by the Redwattle Birds. The local Redwattle birds have been very . . . → Read More: re Cuckoos

Cuckoos

I know why Judith. All the Koels are here at Yamba NSW but no Channel-billed cuckoos. Geoff

cuckoos

More of the Channel-Bills than ever before here this season. But still few small cuckoos and, like last year, remarkably few Koels compared to the constant presences in earlier years.

Swifts

This year my first WTN sightings weren’t until Thur 14 Dec (4pm), maybe 50-60 drifting leisurely through high & low — & then 16 Dec (lunchtime), say 30 swirling by in a quicker stream.

They seem to get later here each year, & fewer sightings.

Over the last week (from the 15th), our group of 4 birders have managed to see Red-bellied Pitta (Papuan Pitta) at Iron Range (Rainforest Campground). Have only seen arboreal birds, I do not think they are nesting in this location yet. Forest is still dry.

Parrot population data and a question for birding aus members

The information that Martin refers to, is available in my book: “Canberra Birds: A Report on the first 21 years of the Garden Bird Survey”. This is a detailed 130 page analysis of the GBS, that has been run by Canberra Ornithologists Group (COG) in Canberra, continuously since July 1981. Martin has referred to 30 . . . → Read More: Parrot population data and a question for birding aus members

We found the birding app for Colombia from Pro Aves to be excellent. I think it was the All the birds of Colombia and it has ‘sunbird’ written down the side of the icon. Fabulous birding and many are identified by their call. Good luck ———————————————————————-
