By Birding-Aus, on January 2nd, 2018 Hi all,
After lots more investigation and help from you all, I think the bird in the posted photograph is the Pink-headed Imperial-pigeon (Ducula rosacea). The eyes, beaks and color all fit with all my photos and the bird is found at Jurong (since 2015).
Cheers
David Jackson

By Birding-Aus, on January 2nd, 2018 Last Thursday after a halfhearted effort of trying to photograph Logrunners on a cloudy day with misty rain under the canopy at ” O’Reilly’s”, Lamington National Park and after some grainy efforts I was showing a Sydney couple where the squeaking noise was coming from that they had heard.
The noise was coming from a . . . → Read More: Logrunner.
By tnewcombe, on January 2nd, 2018 Hi everyone, Had a bit of a thrill this morning to see a small flock of Scarlet Honeyeaters in my front garden, in a crab-apple tree. We get loads of birds here in south coast NSW on our small acreage, but this is the first time we’ve seen this beautiful little bird. There were a . . . → Read More: Happy New Year
By Birding-Aus, on January 2nd, 2018 This game is back in business for 2018 despite the website manager passing away in late 2017. Some elements are stuck (eg the theme) but basically it is possible to enter daily data and start trying to add a different bird every day of the year.

Tromsø, at 70*N in northern Norway, has had a wonderful Christmas week: snow, clear cold (but not too cold) winter weather, and now and then spectacular northern lights. It looked quite ominous the weeks before Christmas, as strong southwesterly winds and lots of rain removed most of the snow. . . . → Read More: First birds of 2018
By Birding-Aus, on January 1st, 2018 Dear All,
Though this is a week old, since I didn’t have much access to the internet I thought I’d write it now anyway. We took a nice trip to the Western Treatment Plant on Dec. 25 and managed to see the Banded Stilt from the new bird hide there. It was really quite far . . . → Read More: dec. 25 wtp trip
By Birding-Aus, on January 1st, 2018 I have just posted a report on our bird banding trip to Iluka Nature Reserve last August on my blog. By Birding-Aus, on January 1st, 2018 Good question. I am not an international dove/pigeon expert but I independently came to the same idea as Allan. From consulting the various (4) Asian bird guide books I have (not including the book Allan mentioned). I am not sure but would be confident it is one of that genus. The head pattern certainly only . . . → Read More: Any international dove/pigeon experts out there?
