Hi.

Not sure what contacts you have been trying but: kumullodge@gmail.com usually gets response. There may be infrastructure issues in the area – power blackouts & telecommunications issues are very common in PNG. Kumul is a spectacular place, I’m sure you will enjoy it immensely. Just don’t expect 5 star facilities or service. It’s in . . . → Read More: Kumul Lodge, PNG

Soldagen, the day of the sun

Soldagen, the day of the sun Yesterday, 21 January, is an important day every year in Tromsø, at 70*N in northern Norway. It is Soldagen (literally, the day of the sun; Sundays are called Søndag here), the first day when we can glimpse the sun again over the southern horizon for a little while, after . . . → Read More: Soldagen, the day of the sun

Kumul Lodge, PNG

Hi everyone

I’ve been trying to get in contact with Kumul Lodge in PNG. They haven’t replied to emails and aren’t picking the phone up.

Does anyone know if they have gone out of business, or are they just hard to contact?

cheers

Birding in or around Oslo

Birding In or Around Oslo

We will be visiting Oslo for several days in June and are keen to see as many birds as possible, but we are having trouble finding a guide who is not on holiday at that time or any other info on birding spots. We don’t mind staying out of the . . . → Read More: Birding in or around Oslo

Cuckoo eggs

Hearing the seemingly endless calls of channel-billed cuckoos, koels and brush cuckoos around here, and watching crows chasing channel-billed c’s, and magpielarks chasing koels, the thought occurred: what happens when a cuckoo is ready to play an egg and can’t find an available, unprotected nest? G’day Folks,

I’m going to be in that neck of the woods later this year. Is this the best guide?

Whose feather is this, do you think? Note that it was found on a vehicle track enmeshed in bark & sticks, so was perhaps carried into the habitat-patch by a child – at 500m SEQ open montane heathy woodland, few birds ever present…

ONE RED-RUMPED SWALLOW with+/-20 Barn Swallows at Lower Daintree FNQ yesteday

Name and shame is the way to go. We were there a couple of days ago doing the right thing and staying on the road reserve. The property owner has become so upset he was chucking sticks at the birds to frighten them away!

mimicry?

From the garden a few days ago, I could have sworn I heard a Catbird. At about 20km from Catbird rainforest, I wonder: – whether Catbirds disperse/ migrate in midsummer? or – what other bird/s might reproduce a range of Catbird vocalisations?
