By Birding-Aus, on May 9th, 2018 Dear List,
So, I am fairly certain I saw the Little Eagle in Yarra Bend Park:

Since I have never seen this species before, can anyone confirm this? Seems to be the only kind of raptor with this patterning.
It was hovering high in the sky for a few minutes, and then flew away . . . → Read More: little eagle: yarra bend park

In particular, note that Kangaroo Island’s ashbyi aligned with eastern birds on mitochondrial DNA in the recent Norman et al paper, though the authors did recommend leaving ashbyi in maculatus (on morphological . . . → Read More: Scrubwrens

By Birding-Aus, on May 3rd, 2018 I used to think that the Sandstone Shrike-thrush was pretty hard to beat, but when the Little Shrike-thrush was recently re-instated as a full species, when I changed the listing on my website my attention was drawn to what an outstanding songster it is.
So my vote goes to a Little Shrike-thrush with Pied Butcherbird . . . → Read More: Australias best songster.
