Common Myna not in Adelaide

We have just spent a week in Adelaide and I was surprised not to see a single Common Myna. Looking at eBird it seems they haven’t made it across the Mallee. Is this just because they don’t like the mallee habitat or is there some other reason?

Grey-crowned Babblers killing other birds’ young

A friend told me that other day that he had seen this species killing the young of other birds. Have any Birding Aussers witnessed this?

Thanks

East Kew Gang Gangs

Walking home through Hays Paddock in Kew East this evening, there were about 20 Gang Gangs up the top end of Glass Creek. I’ve not seen this many here before.

Looking for a second-hand scope for a good cause

Dear Birding-Aussers

I have just returned from a 12 day solo birding visit to Bhutan (highly recommended).

My guide while there was a 31 year old freelance birding guide by the name of Phub Dorji who was engaged by a local birding tour company “Off to Bhutan” (www.bhutanbirding.com) for my visit. He is a former . . . → Read More: Looking for a second-hand scope for a good cause

I had planned to keep silent for a while, after 2 messages in one week, but today’s surprise I ‘must’ tell about.

The weather is still cold (6*C) and windy, and I needed both mittens and a woollen cap today. I started out at the airport, where I gave up yesterday. Little to . . . → Read More: ….and furthermore
