By Birding-Aus, on December 10th, 2018 Peach and apricot kernels do contain some of the poisonous compound amygdalin found in bitter almonds and in their outer casing. But this is not very poisonous because persipan, a marzipan substitute, is made from peach and apricot kernels (don’t know how it is prepared though). The flavour of apricot jam is much improved by . . . → Read More: Fwd: amygdalin > hydrogen cyanide
By Birding-Aus, on December 10th, 2018 On Saturday last I saw a Caspian Tern sitting steadfastly in an easily identifiable position on a sandbar in Mallacoota Inlet for a fairly long period. It revolved on the spot, but didn't move. I thought this looked though it was sitting on a nest. Today it, or another Caspian Tern, is in exactly . . . → Read More: Nesting Caspian Tern

By Birding-Aus, on December 9th, 2018 Not sure if it was a guest appearance or whether they are hanging around SEQ for a while. Does anyone know if WTNT are sensitive to the heatwave conditions that have been gripping northern Australia and how they they would be influenced by the cyclonic system heading towards the Qld coast.
