If Eric Yan reads this, can he contact me off-line about where at Macquarie Uni the Banded Lapwing he reported to BirdlineNSW was seen – I work in the area so could have a look for it tomorrow or later in the week. Hi all first up many thanks to those who gave me Eric’s email and particularly to Eric for his reply with directions to where he saw the Banded Lapwing at the weekend. I visited the Macquarie Uni site this morning (28 May) at about 7:20am and there was no sign of a Banded Lapwing at either the main lake or the pond further up campus towards Epping Rd (or the lake a 2nd time when I walked back to it). I could not see any sign of the bird on any of the other wide open spaces near the sports centre either. However, I would note that somebody had walked their dog (on a lead and in a controlled responsible manner I might add) past the main lake just as I arrived the first time; the second pass of the lake would have been 15 minutes or so later. Given the amount of short cut grass and flat rooves with gravel on them around the Macquarie Park area, I would not discount the lapwing being somewhere else in the area. I’ll keep an eye out (including the birds that loiter around the Optus campus where I work).
