Identifying Little Egrets – some visual aids

In the interest of assisting birders with the identification of the Little Egrets we normally see in Australia I have uploaded a few images showing comparisons with Eastern Great Egret, Intermediate Egret and Eastern Reef Egret.

The images can be see by going to: http://users.tpg.com.au/inglisrc/ and clicking on the button labelled “Identifying Little Egret” in the menu on the left.

    Dear All,

A very interesting thread and one that I will happily leave for the experts, but I was wondering if we could have more information on the behaviour of this bird? Trying to extrapolate the jizz of a bird from a couple of still images can lead to inaccurate conclusions. It is more than a few years since I have seen a Pied Heron, but from memory they act quite differently from Little Egrets (and, for that matter, from Eastern Reef Egrets) so a detailed description of how this bird was behaving would add useful information to the debate.

    Regards

    Judith
