Dear Tickers Adding escapees or ferals to one’s bird list must be OK if they are annotated as being likely Escapees or Ferals, and whether or not they have Self-sustaining breeding colonies. Patently they are not Australian Natives, but neither are most Birding-ausers. Doesn’t mean they aren’t there or not worth seeking out. As a one-time serious ticker, seeking out self-sustaining colonies took us to some interesting places eg for Peacocks, Ostriches and White Swans, probably now exterminated or otherwise demised. Recording those sightings on Birding-aus could be valuable. Indian Ringneck imports to SE England have become naturalised and a real problem, there must be millions of them now. I saw one in Mulgoa Valley a few years ago with a flock of Rainbow Lorikeets, fortunately never seen again, but if a series of reports came in it would justify efforts to control them before becoming a problem. Perhaps the biggest problem is separating escapees from vagrants, and true vagrants from accidental (eg boat-borne) transportees. Asylum-seekers are in another category all together.
