Gouldian Finch and Peaceful Dove preening

While guiding recently I spotted a group of birds in a tree – Masked, Long-tailed and Gouldian finches, and Peaceful Doves. A Peaceful Dove and male Gouldian were sitting very close together, preening each other. Bruce Richardson was able to take several photos of this occurrence. I’d never seen this behaviour before among wild birds and wondered if birding-Aussers knew of any literature on inter-species preening.

    Hi Denise and all,

Last November at Glen Davis (Capertee Valley, NSW) I saw two babblers preening each other. Not unusual, except that this was a White-browed and a Grey-crowned. Both seemed to have lost their respective family groups at the time. (Or perhaps they had eloped together…) I have a fuzzy photo of the two birds together if anyone is interested.

    Cheers,

    Carol
