FFG Act (VIC) – Noisy Miner news

An update for those people interested in the impact that Noisy Miners are having on our woodland birds. I am advising of a legislative development that occurred yesterday (5 July).

The following item has now been formally added (as a ‘Potentially Threatening Process’) to the Schedules of the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act. This now means that an Action Statement (in effect a management plan) must now be compiled to address this threat in Victoria.

‘Reduction in biodiversity resulting from Noisy Miner (Manorina melanocephala) populations in Victoria’

The listing can be found in the Victorian Government Gazette 5 July 2012 edition (page 1494) via the following website:

http://www.gazette.vic.gov.au/gazette/Gazettes2012/GG2012G027.pdf

For those people who have not already obtained a copy of the Scientific Advisory Committee Final Recommendation Report which preceded this listing, feel free to contact me for a copy.

cheers, Martin
