Duck hunting regulations under review

It’s not just the Coalition Against Duck Shooting that has objections to several new proposals for duck hunting in Victoria – the draft 2012 Wildlife (Game) Regulations. The RSPCA oppose them as does Environment Victoria, which is circulating a response, commenting on several important proposals, among them: *free duck shooting licences for 12-18 year olds *the reintroduction of lead shot for women and children to use for shooting, and *a new, 14-day shooting licence for international tourists who will not be required to pass the Waterfowl Identification Test The proposed changes can be read here: http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/game-hunting/about-game-hunting/legislation-and-regulation/game-regulations-consultation/wildlife-regulations-2012 This is Environment Victoria’s submission: http://environmentvictoria.org.au/content/duck-hunting-regulations-under-review-%E2%80%93-have-your-say

Please comment before 20 August. These new ideas are a doomed grab for country votes. They’re a step back for all sorts of reasons, not least the danger to the environment of toxic lead shot. And kids being encouraged to use shotguns? It’s hard to believe.
