Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, March 4, 2024 to Sunday, March 10, 2024:

Area: SA

Location: Cnr Winchester St and Seventh Ave, St Peters

Grey Currawong (Strepera versicolor) (1) A few weeks ago I thought I heard a distant grey currawong from our garden (Third Ave, a few houses from Joslin), but having never seen or heard one before in 35 years, wasn’t convinced. Then someone reported one from St Peters at last week’s Birds SA meeting, about 1km from us. On Sunday we were going for a walk to the river and a currawong flew over our heads, calling. Now it just needs to put its feet down in our garden to get added to my garden list (35 species). Seeing a new species is a very rare occurrence, and some that used to be here haven’t been seen for 20 years (crested shrike-tit, purple crowned lorikeet)
