Birdline Tasmania Weekly Update

Birdline Tasmania Published sightings for the week ending 18 Jan 2015. Sat 17 Jan Blue-billed Duck Copper Ck, Hopeless Plains, south of Smithton. 11 birds incl 4 immatures on farm dam between Edith Ck and Irishtown. Also 120 Pacific Gulls 10km from nearest salt water. Richard Ashby. Hazel Britton Latham’s Snipe Duck River Estuary, Smithton 16 birds flushed from saltmarsh, with 4 Golden Plover, on east bank just north of township. Richard Ashby. Hazel Britton Fri 16 Jan Grey Goshawk (white morph) Waterworks Reserve (Dynnyrne/Ridgeway) Observed two Grey Goshawks active in the bush above the loos at this site. One was carrying the remains of what may be a Ringtail Possum. Both calling and very active. John & Sue O’Malley Straw-necked Ibis Boat Harbour Single bird in a field above Boat Harbour Beach. Michael Parsons Mon 12 Jan Masked Owl Margate Seen in Old Bernies Road, just past Tabors Road junction in small section of the road where we regularly see small bats at dusk. It gave a small shriek as it flew into the open above the road, then landed in a roadside tree. After locating it, we had a short look with the spotlight before it moved away.
