Birdline Central & Southern Queensland Weekly Update

Birdline Central & Southern Queensland Published sightings for the week ending 18 Jan 2015. Fri 16 Jan Regent Bowerbird Mill Rainforest Trail Came upon an active Regent Bowerbird bower and witnessed the courtship ritual and copulation of a pair at the bower this morning. Light conditions in the rainforest and the fact that the bower was well hidden under overhanging foliage made for poor photographs. Marie Tarrant Thu 15 Jan White-throated Nightjar Brisbane Forest Park–Bellbird Grove One bird heard calling twice in quick succession, from the far side of the open field, at about 8pm. The first time I’ve heard this species here this summer (though presumably they’ve been kicking around for a little while beforehand). An Owlet-nightjar and a Boobook (both regular here) were also heard. Russell Yong & T. Crispin Tue 13 Jan Black-breasted Button-quail Noosa National Park–Tanglewood track Single bird (female) seen on near Alexandria Bay turn off on the Tanglewood track. Good views.
