Birdlife International (HWB) has recently updated their list (now Version
9), I have been slowly working through the list. I’m only a short way into
the passerines. Of interest so far
a) Non-passarines remain substantially unchanged from Version 8
b) Passerines have been completely reordered.
c) some of the changes that effect Australia are
– Blue-faced Honeyeater has been split. The White-quilled Honeyeater (Top
End and Kimberley) has been added
– Crested Shrike-tit has been split into Northern, Western and Eastern
– Spotted Catbird is now Black-eared Catbird, but has not been split.
– Quail-thrushs, Papuan Pitta, Tropical Scrubwren, Western Fieldwren,
Gilbert’s Honeyeater, Western Grasswren now follows IOC
– Golden-backed Honeyeater split from Black-chinned
There will be others when I get around to going through the rest of the
passerines.
