Barn Swallows on Cocos

A report from Pam Jones of 2 Barn Swallows on Cocos on 21 July has raised the question of whether these are early spring arrivals (as I think) or over-wintering birds. Does anyone know of any records of Barn Swallows overwintering in Australia or the southern hemisphere for that matter? HANZAB has none.

    G’day Mike

Barn Swallows occasionally overwinter in southern Africa (Sinclair et al. Birds of Southern Africa).

    Cheers Steve
