I’ve returned from a three-day visit to Lake Broadwater on the Darling Downs. The highlight was a pair of Barking Owls, found easily either at night or during the day.
Australian Pelicans have had a bumper nesting season inland following two years of good rains and I’ve noticed they are returning in numbers to the Sunshine Coast. There were large numbers at Lake Broadwater (well east of the main nesting areas inland) , with the behaviour of the birds indicating they were heading east. I wonder if this is being noticed elsewhere around the country.
Lake Broadwater had been dry for many years but is now full, with an abundance of fish. As the gullies feeding it are ephemeral, I wonder how these fish return to the lakes when they fill.
