Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, July 25, 2022 to Sunday, July 31, 2022:

Area: SA

Location: On our Rockleigh property

Collared Sparrowhawk (Accipiter cirrocephalus) (1) Species number 92 on our piece of heaven ! I heard a call I didn’t recognise though it sounded raptore-ish, saw the bird flying, and it looked like a small raptore, and listening to sparrowhawk calls on ebird confirmed the ID.
It could have been species 93. Last week Pete saw an emu in the adjoining reserve, standing next to our fence. He told me he didn’t try to herd it in through our gate. I wonder why not.
After a long drought, that is (almost) 3 new species in the last couple of months. The spoggies seemed to like their new home and turn up every time we do, very shy though. Despite the tally of 92 it is a very rare weekend that more than 25 species are spotted. 15 is a more usual number. This was a good weekend – 23 species.
