Have noticed this NZ bird PS (Tadorna variegata) is now on the Australian IOC checklist. Can anyone tell me where this bird / or these birds have been found in Oz, I’d like to add a location factor to the bird. Many thanks Jude _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
OMG … Have no idea why I wrote Norfolk .. but I have Lord Howe recorded against the bird. And yes, was a great Beatles song. Hey Jude, (Isn’t that a great Beatles song) – if you did that you’d be wrong. It was Lord Howe Island. There is one Australian record. Up five birds were present on Lord Howe Island March-August 1950. See Hindwood & Cunningham (1950), Emu, 50, 23-35, or McAllan, Curtis, Hutton & Cooper, (2004), ‘The Birds of the Lord Howe Island Group: A Review of Records’, Australian Field Ornithology: 21 Supplement. Hi Jude, Paradise Shelduck was already on the OZ checklist based on Christidis & Boles (2008). I think it is labeled ‘LH/V’ there (i.e. Lord Howe Island/Vagrant). Don’t have that book here at work. Can check tonight at home. Hi Jude, I remember seeing a pair in Sydney many years ago (?1970s) at either Centennial Park or the Royal Botanic Gardens. Whether they were ‘wild’ birds or semi-domesticated I cannot say.
