tours / guiders in Thailand

Hi,

Can anyone recommend tours and guiders in Thailand. There are a few on the web – for example Thailand Bird Watching (Tony Eagle Eye) – that seem reasonable. I want a budget trip, staying in local homestay type accom. Happy to rough it as it is more fun that way. Any advice most appreciated.

Cheers, Alex

    Alex,

My family enjoyed a couple of days at Khao Sok National Park and a night on bamboo rafts on Chieow Laan Lake. This is down Phuket way. The “treehouses” at Khao Sok were very relaxing. The bamboo rafts on Chieow Laan Lake are pretty simple, and the food was nothing to write home about but it was pretty cool to wake up and hear/see the gibbons in the trees nearby and the scenery is spectacular. Worth considering for a couple of quite days R&R. I had planned to do some birding locally while the family bludged, but I was carrying an ankle injury and I didn’t want to go charging off into the jungle.

We booked through a local (Thai based) operator – Kris Gardener of Limestone Lake Rainforest Tours http://limestonelaketours.com/. VERY satisfied with the service. She also arranged a connection from Surat Thani railway station at the beginning and on to Phuket at the end. You can do it by local bus, but I didn’t trust above-mentioned ankle.

    Hi Alex,

I am in Thailand at the moment and went out with the Games and Ian from South Thailand Birding yesterday.

Just booked a day trip with them but we managed to see 110 species during the day. I can thoroughly recommend them if your in the Phuket/Phrang-nga areas – I had a great time! They do do longer tours and tailor made ones too…

    Cheers,

    Ed
