A few days in and around Port Douglas have produced the following interesting sightings (interesting by virtue of their being uncommon or because of their timing): Good numbers of Plumed Whistling-duck at Pennyweight Lagoon on AWC’s Brooklyn Reserve. An adult and an immature Rufous Night-heron on the Sea Temple golf course. Three Dollarbirds hawking for insects at dusk, also at the golf course. A Pied Currawong at a small dam north of Mt Carbine. A Rufous Fantail at Mitchell Lake. [The early rains have brought Wet-like verdancy to the entire coastal region and the Tableland up here.] Richard Nowotny
