Hi all in WA I am going to be in Perth this weekend and am looking for some interesting birding. I know it was a while ago now but can anyone tell me if the Red-tailed Tropic Birds are still being seen at Rottnest Island please? If no RTTBs then can anyone give me places that are good chances at any of the following? Redthroat, Painted Button-quail, Sooty Tern or anything that might be around that is bit out of the ordinary? I don’t mind a bit of a drive and/or love to tag along with others. G’day All, We’ve just returned from a weekend chasing Malleefowl (successfully 🙂 ) out past Merridin and whilst we were out there we visited Sandford Rocks Nature Reserve (near Westonia). We found Redthroat there in the Mallee scrub around the base of the rock and we also found plenty of then in the scrub out near Bodallin too. We’ve seen a few (well the back end of a few) Painted Button Quail out at Collins Road earlier this year (about 3 months ago) and as recently as April we saw fresh “plates” where they they had been scratching about so it might be worth a look. Most of the activity seemed to be on the first 2 hilly areas on the right as you drive down Collins Road.
