The Map of Life App apparently enables people to check out local wildlife wherever they are in the world by indicating what species of animals and plants might be nearby. See http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/05/150512103512.htm

Try searching under Macquarie St Sydeny. Should get plenty of both monkeys and geese there! Martin Butterfield http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/ On 16 May 2015 at 10:06, Carl Clifford < carlsclifford@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, no doubt you have Greylags in Tamworth, just that they aren’t wild ( though some get pretty cranky). They would be backyards and paddocks, as the common garden goose is descended from Greylags. At least this app does give some entertainment, in playing spot the howler. Speaking of howlers, must check the monkey section to see how many species it reckons we have. Carl Clifford

This looks an interesting app, but certainly don’t rely on it. Says we have Greylag Geese in the Tamworth! Sent from my iPad

It needs a little bit of work. Unfortunately, as it is now, you need to know what species occur in a location, so that you can sort out the furphys. Unless it is getting in early for the effects of global warming.

Moluccan Owlet-nightjar in Werribee would be an Aussie tick for me! Mostly reasonable birds but a few odd ones. On 14 May 2015 8:43 pm, “Carl Clifford” < carlsclifford@gmail.com> wrote:

Laurie, Looks interesting, though it needs a tweak or two I think. I just downloaded it, and pulled up the list of birds for my area (NSW Central Coast), and while I would love to see it, I don’t think I would have much of a chance of finding the Phillipine Falconet it says is around here. Looking forward to having a bit more of a play with it. Carl Clifford
